Not a bad Olympics

Well, it wasn’t the end I wanted (damn you Canada Hockey); however, this was definitely a productive Olympics for the USA. In all honesty, I really can’t believe they’re over. These past couple of weeks have been kind of a blur with work and resolving family computer issues. Anyway, I’m hoping things calm down so I can actually have some semblance of “normality” again.

Wii, not bad for a single purpose system

Now, don’t go thinking this is going to become my favorite console because honestly that’s never going to happen. I’ve always said the Wii had it’s place for a specific genre of games and that still holds true. I wouldn’t buy a third party game for the Wii when it’s available for PS3 as graphics are a huge part of the gaming immersion, in my opinion.

The only game I bought with it is Sports Resort which is a ton of fun. I find myself using full body motion (almost like I was doing the actual activity, but not) which makes the experience more ‘real’ (in a totally fake gaming sort of way). I did also purchase ‘The Legend of Zelda’ from the Wii Shop and have put a good deal of time into that. It’s awesome getting to relive a classic (and great) game, especially on a 42″ LCD. It brings back good memories of how games needed real strategy, smarts, and trial and error to keep going. Using the Wii-mote is definitely different than using a classic controller; however, it’s pretty easy to pick up on (took me about an hour to get comfortable with it).

Also, I realized the Wii is probably one of the more expensive consoles to own. Not in a core bundle sort of way; but in controllers and peripherals. To really enjoy the console each controller should have a Nunchuck. On top of that they should also have a Motion Plus attachment (I just picked up the controllers with the Motion Plus already bundled), and a rechargeable station w/rechargeable battery packs. Seriously, for 3 extra controllers for my PS3 it was under $100. To get three fully equipped controllers for the Wii it was over $200. Also since it uses an analog signal source I got high quality Component cables to go from the console to my AV receiver (another $30). With my PS3 I just had to pick up a $5 HDMI cable. I’m not even including the Zapper, Wheel, “classic controller” attachment (Super Nintendo clone). I mean really, that’s a lot of plastic laying around.

Anyway, to conclude the Wii is a decent system. It doesn’t win points for graphics, or speed; however, in terms of a unique control system they did a great job with implementation.

Droid at 1GHz, and other stuff I guess

Hell yeah! Though there is a downside to getting addicted to this new speed and that is when Android 2.1 drops for the Droid I’ll have to wait until that’s hacked to do anything (depending on the ‘other features’ that are included with the release). Seriously though, at 1GHz this thing screams. I don’t think I’ll try the 1.1 or 1.3GHz as there’s not as many people with success on these builds.

On to other news, I’m finally back home after product training down in Irvine all week. I passed the certification at the end, which is a nice change of pace from oddly not passing a different cert for the past couple of months. This weekend is pretty busy for me as well, filled with Taxes, Cleaning, and prioritizing work to catch up on from this past week. That and the Olympics ‘start’ tonight :)

Super Bowl was a letdown

First off a congrats to the Saints on winning the Super Bowl. It was their first appearance and a good moral booster for the team, and fans. Now on to my opinion as to why it sucked for actual football fans.

Yeah so the Super Bowl was a real letdown this year. The game was uneventful, Referees blowing GLARING penalties, Half-time show was one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time, the onside kick after half-time showed no class (though it is a valid strategy; just not one I would ever endorse), The only memorable commercials were from the Budweiser brand (including Bud Light), Monster.com (the beaver on the fiddle just rocked), and Dorritos. My full opinion after the break.

Permalinks updated and other stuffs

Well, I’ve updated the permalinks on the site, everything should be pretty smooth getting to older posts (thanks to a handy plugin).

I’ve also ‘gone to the dark side’ by creating a Facebook account. It’s mainly for testing; however, that’s technically how everything I do starts before it becomes mainstream (damn it). Anyway, assuming all works well the posts from my blog should show up there. If all goes well I’ll have Facebook, Twitter, and my blog all working happily together, if not they’ll most likely burn in a fiery uncontrollable spiral toward their ultimate fate.
